As you age, production of some hormones essential for reproductive and sexual health progressively declines. That can significantly affect your overall quality of life, interest in sex, and self-esteem.

A healthy libido for both women and men involve an array of hormones that are often labeled “sex hormones.” The most familiar sex hormones are estrogen for women and testosterone in men.

There are, of course, other reasons for losing interest in sex such as stressful lifestyle, excessive alcohol and drug use, chronic pain and diseases, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, etc.

But hormonal imbalance is still the most common one. Therefore BHRT, for both men and women, who lack sexual desire is the most likely solution.

Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD)

Difficulty reaching orgasm and reduced libido, especially during or following menopause, are the most common signs of sexual dysfunction related to a woman’s hormone levels. Other symptoms may include experiencing pain during intercourse and vaginal dryness.

Estrogen and testosterone are important hormones for a woman’s sexual health. Low levels of estrogen can cause mild to severe symptoms, including those that might be causing you to lose interest in sex, such as:

  • Vaginal dryness and itchiness
  • Mood swings
  • Low libido
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Excessive tiredness
  • Hot flashes

Although hormone deficiency is the most common cause of Female Sexual Dysfunction other treatments can provide relief from some symptoms as well.

Bremelanotide (PT-141)

Bremelanotide acts on the central nervous system to improve sexual desire. It has shown as much as a 50% increase in sexually satisfying experiences for women.

Vasodilators

Vasodilators help relax smooth muscles and improve blood flow to intimate areas for an increased response. Vasodilators are common treatments for men, but they show promise in easing FSD, as well.

Topical Libido Creams

These creams are applied to intimate areas to help improve blood flow, sensation, and responsiveness. Many women benefit from the physical response caused by libido creams.

Oxytocin

Also called the Hormone of Love, Oxytocin has shown promise in encouraging relaxation and connection for improved intimacy.

PRP Injections

Platelet rich plasma includes healing growth factors that can encourage tissue repair. When injected into intimate areas, PRP can help with pain during intercourse and lack of sensation.

Bioidentical Pellets

Hormone imbalance is also common cause of Female Sexual Dysfunction. If you are suffering from the effects of hormone deficiency, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a good treatment option for you.

Low Testosterone & Erectile Dysfunction in Men

When there is a persistent inability to attain or sustain an erection long enough for a satisfying sexual encounter it is called erectile dysfunction (ED), and its prevalence increases with age.

Not all men with ED have low testosterone levels but if low T is diagnosed as the cause of ED, testosterone replacement therapy can help restore libido and the ability to reach and maintain erections.

Several body systems work in coordination to achieve an erection, and a deficit in any one of these systems may impair the process. Often, erectile dysfunction results from multiple contributing causes or origins.

Other Treatments for ED

  • Oral PDE5 Inhibitors (Cialis or Viagra) for inadequate blood flow or nerve damage
  • Prostaglandin injections (Trimix or Bimix) for severe ED
  • Vacuum device

Several novel therapies are also available. These include platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, which is obtained from a patient’s blood and is rich in healing cells and growth factors and Extracorporeal shock wave therapy, or ESWT, which has the potential to break up scar tissue and encourage new blood vessel growth. These therapies are designed to address specific causes of ED by stimulating tissue regeneration.

Hormone Therapy for FSD or ED

If you suspect a hormone imbalance, the first step is to find a practitioner specializing in the complexities of hormone health and aging. When trying to obtain an accurate diagnosis, you’ll begin with a complete medical history review and thorough lab testing.

If hormone imbalance is a causative factor in your sexual dysfunction, customized hormone therapy can be compounded according to your needs and delivered directly to your door.
